Description:

He doesn't believe in happy endings.
She's lost her faith that they exist.
But could they find one together?

January is a hopeless romantic who likes narrating her life as if she's the heroine in a blockbuster movie.
Augustus is a serious literary type who thinks true love is a fairy-tale.
January and Augustus are not going to get on.

But they actually have more in common than you'd think:

They're both broke.
They've got crippling writer's block.
They need to write bestsellers before the end of the summer.

The result? A bet to see who can get their book published first.
The catch? They have to swap genres.
The risk? In telling each other's stories, their worlds might be changed entirely...

Review:

This is another of those popular books that I've seen a lot of on the internet.

This starts with January arriving at her dad's house and trying to settle into the vacant building when the noise from her neighbour drives her mad and they have an argument in the dark of their respective porches. The next morning she heads into town and wanders around the shops, telling us tales of growing up, her parents and college. When the local library/coffee shop owner introduces her to Augustus Everett, January is surprised to see the guy she went to college with and had a big crush on because of his talent for writing. Turns out he's her neighbour and after a drunken bet, they decide to try and write the others' genre of writing. January to write literary fiction and Gus to write a romance.

I don't know if it's the fact this is my third unrequited-love book in a row or if the storyline just didn't go as I expected but I didn't enjoy this as much as I thought I would.

It wasn't as light as I expected it to be. January is dealing with secrets she's found out since her fathers death and Gus is investigating a cult-like group for his new book that was pretty dark. The romance is pretty rocky, too. I struggled to get into it and wasn't that fussed whether they ended up together or not.

I do have another book to read by this author but I'm going to read a few other things before.
