Clara Wheaton is the consummate good girl: over-achieving, well-mannered, utterly predictable. When her childhood crush invites her to move cross-country, the offer is too good to resist. Unofrtunately. it's also too good to be true.
Suddenly, Clara finds herself sharing a house with a charming stranger. Josh might be a bit too perceptive - not to mention handsome - for comfort, but there's a good chance he and Clara could have survived sharing a summer sublet if she hadn't looked him up on the unternet...
Once she learns how Josh had made a name for himself, Clara realises living with him might destroy the reputation she's spent years building. But while they may not agree on much, both Josh and Clara believe women deserve better sex. What they decide to do about it will change both of their lives, and if they're lucky, they'll help everyone else get lucky too.
I bought this from my usual fave shop The Works in their 3 for £5 offer. I wasn't entirely sure what this was about but it sounded intriguing. I also picked up the next book in the series, too, The Intimacy Experiment.
This starts with Clara moving from New York to California on a whim when her childhood friend and crush offers her his spare room. Only he disappears on her the same day she arrives and she's left to fend for herself with a random stranger - Josh - who is now renting out the master bedroom. The pair of them slowly get to know each other and it's only when she looks up her roommate online - after a hint from her aunt - that she realises Josh is in the adult entertainment business. Clara is a bit prudish where sex is concerned but when Josh finds out she's never had an orgasm they come together to make a business that will empower women.
So yeah, I wasn't entirely expecting it to be quite so crazy plot-wise but it grew on me. I liked Josh and though Clara was a bit annoying in her stuffiness she began to grow on me, too.
It was the whole porn thing that made me think this was crazy. I've read loads of books with escorts and stuff but only one other book with a porn star in it (Lingus - Mariana Zapata). I wasn't quite sure where it was going to go after Clara found out and it took a strange turn when between them they decided to make a new sex-related informational-guide-type website where couples could go to learn about stuff to try in the bedroom to make them both very happy. It hadn't gone how I was expecting it to go at all, though they did inevitably end up falling in love with each other.
It didn't quite work for me. I didn't really feel their connection or the romance blossom between them. It was a bit instant-attraction-that-must-stay-secret and then doing-things-to-each-other-etc to think-im-falling-in-love. It lost me towards the middle and I put off finishing it for days because of that.
I do have the second book in the series - The Intimacy Experiment - but I'm going to put off reading it for a bit and pick up something else.
