Description:

The Supernatural Summit is about to start at the DeVane Hotel in London. Vampires and werewolves, ghouls and gremlins, and pixies and druids have all come together to find better ways to get along with the human community and address the strict laws which govern their existence. It's a real opportunity to change the world for the better and I'm proud to be a part of it.

But there are protestors camped outside the hotel and dangerous rumours circling about one of the delegates. When a dead body is discovered, I know it's only a matter of time before all hell breaks loose.

I have to find the murderer. And I have to find them quickly.

Review:

It's been quite a while since I read the previous four books in this series but I remembered the romance that bloomed between Emam and Lukas a.k.a Lord Horvath and her power of rebirth.

So this starts with Emma in Trafalgar Square as a man has climbed one of the plinths and is declaring himself a vampire, and a dangerous one at that, making him fall under her - and Supe Squad - jurisdiction. Only when she gets closer, she realises he is definitely human and possibly has a mental illness. He mentions a name - the Chief - and the name pops up again later that day when an omega wolf turns up on her doorstep to warn her about him and the damage he's hoping to wreck at the Supe Summit in a few days time. When the man known as the Chief is found dead at the Summit, Emma is given 48 hours to solve the case before it is handed over to her human counterparts and she is determined to find the killer.

So I wasn't sure about this one at the start. It was a little slow until the summit started but then we had the murder and I was intrigued as to who had murdered the cult-like leader. He seemed like a bit of a strange one with his claims of vanquishing the evil beasts inside his followers. I had various suspects in mind but they all slowly got eliminated by Emma's investigation. And the culprit took me by surprise in the end.

This also focuses on Emma and Lukas' relationship and the strains it comes under when she has to treat almost everyone in the hotel as suspects in the case. As well as when she gets mortally wounded and decides to end her life so she can be reborn with her phoenix powers and be stronger and quicker once more.

I don't think this will be the last book as we still have a few things that haven't been fully resolved, in my opinion, but it did have a suitable ending for the Summit with humans feeling a lot more sympathetic to the supes of the world.

I look forward to reading more books and series' by this author.

Asher Henderson.
Captain of the Highnam Academy football team, and the bane of my existence.
As Alstone High’s team captain, I’ve been pitted against him from the beginning, but our conflict isn’t only reserved for the pitch.
Everyone knows we’re enemies. From our first encounter, our rivalry has been escalating, spiralling out of control.

Until one night when everything between us changed.
He pushed me too far, and we crossed a line that should never have been crossed.
Now, I can’t get him out of my head.
Can we ever be more than rivals, or are there too many obstacles in our way?

One thing I know for sure.
Things between us will never be the same again.

Review:

This popped up on my Amazon page as a recommendation and the cover pulled me in, and then the description because I'm a sucker for Enemies to Lovers.

So this starts with Asher plotting to get revenge on Levi and the rivaling schools football team after they trashed their gym and ruined their kits - going beyond their usual snarky comments and pushing and shoving. Asher wants to fight Levi to put their rivalry to rest and show that he's the better guy but things take an unexpected turn when an unexpected kiss between them knocks them both on their arses, neither expecting it but liking it far too much.

To start with I wrongly assumed that this was going to be set in the US but I'm happy to say it's set in England so I actually understood the sport talk for a change. It's Football - not American Football - so that, too, made a nice change.

As I mentioned above, I do love a good enemies to lovers and this was most definitely that. Both guys were always trying to get one up on the other, always thinking of ways to annoy the other etc. It was crazy how much they thought about it. They were definitely enemies! But at the same time it seemed like more.

I enjoyed reading their slow progression from that single kiss to secret dates to finally telling their respective friends and family. It was cute. While some of the scenes between the two guys were rather hot! It was my favourite combination.

I also liked the little details the author had put in like their team number behind their names to tell us whose point of view we were currently reading. I probably won't forget 10 and 7 for a long time.

I'd like to read more books by this author in the future.

Description:

After a black witch pitched a hissy fit in Hollis Apothecary, Rue got stuck cleaning up his mess. That was the easy part. Repairing the damage he inflicted on Camber and Arden? That makes Rue wish she could bring him back to life just to kill him again. Slower this time.

While Rue is setting her new life back to rights, Clay and Asa are off working a case, but it soon becomes clear that they’ll need her help to catch the vicious creature preying on locals in a small Tennessee town. She’s got her hands full at home, but Rue has no choice. She must report for duty to honor her agreement with the director. Or else.

What she discovers leads her deeper down the rabbit hole of Black Hat Bureau corruption and promises that, no matter how grim the past few weeks have been, the worst is yet to come.

Review:

I read the first one not long ago, and was very eager to jump back into the BHB universe - and see where Rue and Asa went next.

So this starts with Rue trying to put her shop back to normal after the events of the last book when her shop was wrecked and her employees abducted. The two young women are slowly going back to the carefree spirits they were before and Rue has to leave them in control of the shop again as she is called in to help on another case by the Black Hat Bureau. A wendigo that Clay and Asa killed has been reanimated and is killing at its owners request and they have to figure out who is behind it.

This one does focus a lot more on the romance that is slowly blooming between Rue and Asa than the case but I have no problem with that being a mostly romance reader. We learn a lot more about Asa and his demon form and I enjoyed both parts of him. The caring, almost shy guy and the possessive but charming demon who just wants Rue to pet his hair all the time.

I also enjoyed seeing more of her interaction with Clay. They are so close, they know what the other's thinking and when to just be there for the other. They're truly besties and I enjoyed reading more of their past and the resulting banter.

The investigation into the wendigo took an unexpected turn which I didn't see coming and the book that Rue came into possession of in the last book seems to be becoming sentient, which is kinda funny but kinda creepy, too.

I will definitely be reading more of this series in the future.

Description:

You'd think that basically being in charge of love would be an epic job, right? Wrong. Sure, I can blow some Lust into people's faces and watch the show, but I can't actually participate. It gets old, trust me. Same goes for love. I can pass it out like sugar-free lollipops at a dentist's office, but I can't get any love for myself. It totally sucks.

I used to consider myself a hopeless romantic, so why wouldn't I choose to become a cupid? Sounds like a good idea, right? Wrong again. They don't call us stupid cupids for nothing. I'm stuck in this never-ending afterlife where I'm invisible, lonely, and bitter as hell. And yeah, I'm probably responsible for some terrible matchmaking out there. Sorry, not sorry.

All my bad cupid'ing might be why I was exiled from the human realm. You can only do so much before the cupid bosses get all huffy. Unfortunately, my bitterness carried over into the new realm, and then I attacked a fae prince with Love Arrows. Accidentally. Okay, not accidentally. But hey, he deserved it. What I didn't expect was for him to retaliate and hit my ass with some crazy magic mojo strong enough to push me into the physical realm. Whoa.

That's right. This cupid just got a real body. And you know what that means...Now, it's my turn to get some. Love, I mean. Get your head out of the gutter. Wink, wink bitches.

Review:

Grabbed this from the KU Library.

It starts with our unnamed cupid really regretting her choice to become one after watching the same guy saying the same lines to different girls every night and them all falling for it. She's supposed to spread love and all she gets are lust filled nights that lead nowhere and she's getting fed up of it. She's becoming jaded. When she's summoned to "Cupidville" as she calls it, she's worried she's about to go poof and cease existing but ends up being sent to the fae realm instead. She's initially very excited to be in a new realm but things quickly go bad when she tries to get the Fae Prince to fall in love with his Princess, only for him to retaliate to her magic and push her into corporeality. She runs and manages to flee his land but he's after her.

I wasn't sure where this was going since it took until about 17% for her to become corporeal but once she found herself on that one island whose three inhabitants had caught her attention initially, I figured it out. They were going to be her love interests.

As it states, this is a slow burn reverse harem. Nothing sexual happens in this one, they share some flirty looks and innuendo but nobody sleeps with anybody. It is very slow burn.

Not too much happens in this one, to be honest. It's set things up nicely for the story to continue and I'm pretty sure the guys are starting to fall for the newly christened Emelle - her cupid number ML. And she is really beginning to care for the three very different guys.

There's also the mystery of why the Prince is trying to find her considering what she tried to do...?

I haven't decided whether I'll continue the series as of yet.

Description:

When the Underworld burned, I thought that was the end. Turns out it was only the beginning.

Lucifer’s death was a shot heard around the world. The sudden loss of magic turned the tides for the first time in over two decades.

The humans are rallying. Rioting.
It feels like the stirrings of war.

As if that wasn’t enough, Bree isn’t the sister I remember—and her desire to return to Hell is creating more fires than I know how to put out.

Things are changing. Lines are drawn. Everyone must choose a side.

Even me.

Sometimes the world needs a hero. In a city that’s already gone to hell in a hand basket, it might just need a demon.

Review:

So I read book 1 and 2 of this some time last year and was really pulled into the story so I'm looking forward to this one.

This starts with Piper in a bar, getting into a fight with an Alpha when her Demon lover, Ronan, makes an appearance and tries to talk some sense into her. She's on a downward spiral after rescuing her sister, Bree, only for her to want to go back to Hell. There's also a lot of unrest in the city after the death of Lucifer with humans trying to get rid of Supes, Supes taking out humans and demons on the brink of coming out of Hell. Piper needs to figure out how to fix things before her city really goes out of control.

Yeah, I'd forgotten quite a lot of what went down in the previous books other than Piper and Ronan and that he was a demon that had been summoned in the first book and that they ended up with some sort of connection.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed being back in New Chicago with them. Their romantic entanglement finally sorts itself out in this one but not before some ups and downs and errors from both of them.

As for the rest of the gang? I honestly didn't remember much about them but I did like the dynamics between them. They didn't always get along but they all protected those they classed as friends and it was nice to read about.

I thought this was going to be the last book for some reason but that ending has me intrigued about what's going to happen next with this group of people and I'm looking forward to reading more.

Description:

Remember that old line about how the only way out of the organization is in a pine box?

Well, Rue Hollis spent ten years thinking she had escaped the Black Hat Bureau, no coffin required.

Then her former partner had to go and shatter the illusion by showing up on her doorstep with grim tidings. As much as Rue wants to kick him to the curb, she agrees to hear him out for old times’ sake, and what he says chills her to the bone.

The Silver Stag was the most notorious paranormal serial killer in modern history, and Rue brought him down. Now a copycat has picked up where the Stag left off, and the Bureau wants her on the case. She beat the Stag once. They think she can do it again. But they don’t know she’s given up black magic, and she’s not about to tell them. White witches are prey, and Rue is the hunter, not the hunted. Always.

But can she take down the protΓ©gΓ© of the man who almost beat her at her black witch best?

If she wants to keep her new town, her new home, her new life, then she has no choice but to find out.

Review:

I've been eyeing this one for a while. It doesn't focus on the usual paranormal tropes.

This starts with Rue heading into her shop to do some sort of inventory behind the counter when her two young employees get distracted by a handsome guy outside. When he heads inside her shop and asks for Rue, she starts panicking. No one is supposed to know where she is. They must be from her old job at the Black Hat Bureau and want her back. Heading home she meets up with Colby, her young friend of the last ten years and decide to meet up with the agents. They bring bad news. Rue's last job - taking down the killer known as the Silver Stag - appears to now have a copycat killer and they want her help to track him down.

So yeah, this one definitely came across as different. The BHB was a new concept to me and I kind of liked the idea of an FBI but specifically for the supernatural races.

I liked the mystery of the killer and who he could be. How he seemed to know what was going on all the time. It did seem well thought out and I was hooked on it.

I also really liked the friendship between Clay and Rue and Rue and Colby. You could see they had a long past and had a great camaraderie because of it with inside jokes and just knowing what the other was thinking without words. It felt really special.

And last but not least, the connection that was brewing through the entirety of the book between Rue and Asa. That last chapter explained a lot of the strange things that had been occurring between them and I am intrigued by the possible romance that will be blooming between these two.

I will definitely be reading more of this series.

My new boss has it all. In spades.

Gorgeous green eyes? Check.
Hard-and-sexy body? Check.
Intelligence? Check.
Success? A big fat billionaire... Check.

Too bad I haven't started out on the best foot.

My big mouth has already turned him against me, and tempting good looks and success aside, Trent Turner is no peach either. He's stubborn and thick-headed, and son of a fruitcake, he thinks he knows everything there is to know about the hotel business.

With him running the development of the new Vanderturn New Orleans Hotel and me doing the design, our work relationship is far too intimate for two people who absolutely despise one another.

But that's not all.

See, he isn't just my billionaire boss from hell. He's my new neighbor, too.

Same city.
Same building.
Same floor.

Trent Turner is my billionaire boss next door.

Holy moly, let's hope my career--and hormones--can survive.

Review:

This was another book I'd recently added to my Amazon Wish List and decided to read when I got my Kindle Unlimited subscription.

This starts with Greer leaving her New Orleans apartment to catch a flight with her best friend to New York where she'll be having an interview with a big hotel boss about being the designer of their newest hotel opening in New Orleans. They see in the New Year while in the Big Apple and go to a masquerade party where everyone is wearing celebrity masks and at the stroke of midnight finds herself kissing Walter White. After getting the design job she's thrilled at landing such a prestigious role...until she meets her new boss and they immediately lock horns.

This one was long and at times it felt it, too. It took until way after the 50% mark for them to even start thinking about the other in a nice romantic way. And I had lost quite a lot of interest by then and I started skimming paragraphs. I didn't even care about the potential romance brewing between them anymore. It had taken way too long with nothing happening...but I was determined to finish this.

So I did. I did read the chapter where they decided to wear the plastic masks again after the hotel had opened. That bit was kinda cute but then I skimmed the chapters that came afterwards.

I don't think I'll be continuing the series.

I treat eating pancakes on patios like it's a personality trait.

Brunch is my jam. I like the beach, shopping, carbs, and reading naughty books on the train during my commute. I wear pink. Lots of it. If Tinder were an olympic sport, I'd take home the gold. I can rock stilettos like they're a pair of Nike joggers. I'm basically basic.

I'm in the prime of my life. I've got my dream job as the head of marketing at a huge company, and I've been steadily dating myself for the better half of the last decade. I'm thirty, flirty, and thriving!

Or at least I was, until some jerk had the audacity to turn me into a vampire.

I don't do blood and doom and gloom. I sure as hell don't like sleeping in a coffin, avoiding garlic bread, and these ridiculous vamp politics. And don't get me started on Diego. He's vampire royalty and a pain in my butt. A very sexy pain in the butt. When he's not driving me crazy with all his rules, he's turning my panties into Niagara falls.

I absolutely refuse to live the rest of my immortal life in some wannabe nineties grunge music video.

THIS SUCKS

Review:

I added this as a want-to-read on Goodreads last year and now I've paid for a reduced Kindle Unlimited 6 months subscription I decided to download this one first because it seems like it might be quite fun.

This starts with Drew on a Tinder date that isn't going very well at all. She manages to scare him off and is given a note from the hot waiter to meet in the back alley, so she decides to do it. Only things take a weird turn and she wakes up in her bed the next morning with a bad headache. Waking at midnight she rings her friends and begs them to go clubbing with her where she meets Diego. He can't help but be drawn to the woman but when he explains that she's transforming into a vampire, Drew has no idea how to take it. She can't possibly be a vampire. Can she?

I did enjoy this but not as much as I expected to. I didn't always get the humour and the story was engaging but the characters acted a bit out of character at times. It affected my enjoyment a little.

That's not to say that I didn't like some of the characters. I liked Betty. She grew on me a lot. And Rocky. Diego for most of the book. I even liked Claire for a while. I think it was Drew that grated on me the most. She was all for female empowerment but she was also a bit of a brat at times. She really didn't like it when she didn't get her own way.

In a way I'm glad this doesn't have a sequel because, although Drew had mellowed out a lot by the end, she was the one thing that annoyed me with this book.

Although worlds apart, when their eyes meet, Carter and Kat's searing attraction is instant.
As teacher and student, any relationship is against every rule. But although their love is forbidden, it won't be denied...

Review:

This is a book I've had on my Kindle for years. I've just checked and it's been there for five make that six years now. I tend to know that books I've put off for so long, I've put off for a reason. I generally don't enjoy them.

This starts with a prologue of Kat and her father being chased by a gang of men who proceed to beat her father to death while she is dragged away by someone and kept safe. Fast forward quite a few years and Kat is now a tutor to prisoners - finding the most fulfilment teaching criminals over privileged children. When Wes Carter ends up in one of her classes she cant help but be attracted to the hot-head with his knowledge of classic literature and poems but she fights it with everything. When Carters probation hearing comes around, Kat volunteers to continue teaching him outside the prison both in an effort to help him get released sooner and so that she can continue to trade views on the work she gives him. Only the attraction between them keeps flaring and they both know what could happen if they get found out.

It sounds more exciting that it turned out to be.

I was extremely bored reading this. The only scene I truly enjoyed up to the 50% mark was when Carter and Riley were playing basketball while in prison and Carter insulted his friend resulting in a crazy race around the grounds as he tried to avoid his friends retaliation. Now that bit I did enjoy. I was smiling like an idiot as the two bantered.

The rest of the story was just so slow moving. It's 400+ pages long and they're just about getting ready to cross the line have sex by the 50% mark. They flirted and stuff but it was definitely being dragged out.

And I think as soon as we began the tale and got to know Wes that he may have played some kind of role in that prologue. It was just that obvious.

I won't be continuing the series.

Description:

In the wake of a brutal war, the archangel Raphael and his hunter consort, Elena, are dealing with the treacherously shifting tides of archangelic politics and the people of a battered but not broken city. The last thing their city needs is more death, especially not a death that bears the eerie signature of an insane enemy archangel who cannot - should not - be walking the streets. This hunt must be undertaken with stealth and without alerting their people. It must be handled by those who can become shadows themselves...

Ash is a gifted tracker and a woman cursed with the ability to sense the secrets of anyone she touches. But there's one man she knows all too well without a single instant of skin contact: Janvier, the dangerously sexy Cajun vampire who has fascinated and infuriated her for years. Now, as they track down a merciless killer, their cat-and-mouse game of flirtation and provocation has turned into a profound one of the heart. And this time, it is Ash's secret, dark and terrible, that threatens to destroy them both.

Review:

It's been a while - 4 years - since I read the previous books in this series so I may have forgotten a lot of stuff...or I may remember more than just Raphael and Elena... We'll see soon enough.

This starts with a prologue involving Ashwini and Janvier during the battle against Lijuan. They both get injured but are determined the other should survive and escape. Fast forward a few weeks, the battle is over and they're trying to put New York back together after the damage done during it. Ashwini is on light duties while her injury heals and is sent to investigate a "mummified" dog found in the sewers - only to run into Janvier who was on his way up to check on her. Heading out together they investigate the dog and can't help feeling that the Angel they thought destroyed might not have disappeared after all.

I was as intrigued by the mystery of who was behind the dog and later, the girl, as I was about the romance that was brewing - and had been for a while - between Janvier and Ash. I had forgotten all the previous flirtation between the two but I did like their journey anyway. They just gelled so well together and I was cheering them on from pretty much the first page.

As for the mystery the two were determined to solve. I liked following them around New York as they went from club, to residences to the Tower and the Guild looking for answers. It was an interesting look into vamp life in the authors world and I liked the description. I would never have guessed who the bad guy turned out to be.

I also liked the descriptions of the other angels and vampires in this series. Aodhan and Illium are high on my list to read more of. Well, the Seven in general with their fun interactions would be great reading.

I'm very interested in Naasir. He's obviously some strange combination of vampire with his liquid silver hair, crazy way of thinking and death defying shenanigans. I'm intrigued about the kind of woman who will tame him. I'll definitely be keeping my eyes open for Archangel's Enigma.
