Description:

I was issued a warning: stay away from Ben Rosenberg.

As Clifton Cove’s resident “king”, he thinks he’s entitled to anyone and anything.

The trouble is, I’ve spent my whole life following the rules and playing it safe. I know what it feels like to be the good girl. I’m the police chief’s daughter and a librarian—for adorable children, no less. My wardrobe consists of colorful sundresses and baggy jeans. I might as well have a Post-it stuck to my forehead that reads: Yup, she’s a virgin.

An all-nighter with a fictional hunk is about as exciting as my life gets, until one day, fate decides to take pity on me and shove me straight into the path of Mr. Off-Limits himself.

Oof.

Just as I suspected, every inch of him promises to be my demise. Up close, he’s tall, menacing, dangerously handsome—the type of man who’s never spent a single moment worrying about the opinions of others. A well-behaved girl would do as she’s told and avoid him at all costs, but I’m overdue for a little rebellion.

No more Friday nights sprawled out on the couch in my comfiest pajamas. No more wishing I had the courage to misbehave.

Everyone thinks Ben is going to ruin me.
They think he’ll chew me up and spit me out.

Well, Ben…go ahead.
Tempt me. Taunt me.
Make me bad.

Review:

I got this from the KU Library.

This starts with Ben out with his friend Andy in the shadier part of town and a group of guys he went to school with taunting him. A little later Madison is having a...erm, pretty crappy birthday party at the library where she works with her colleagues clapping and equally moaning about having to be there. Heading home afterwards, she's held up at gunpoint and Ben ends up coming to her rescue after leaving the police station. Things go from there with neither of them really being able to forget the other when out of the blue Madison asks Ben to help make her bad.

I did enjoy this, though the comedy elements didn't always work for me. I did like Ben and Madison's romance, though. It was cute. It did feel like it happened rather quickly but as I've already mentioned it was done in a really nice, sweet way. They didn't even have any sort of falling out - like in every other romance book I've read - so that was different, a nice change. I did miss some of the angst, though. It felt too perfect.

This isn't my first book by the author and it probably won't be last either.

Description:

I've said it before, but sometimes I'm a bad person. I cheated on my twelfth grade math final, I've run countless yellow lights, and I gossip about how hot my kickass best friends are. (Good thing my job as a guild bartender doesn't require moral perfection.)

But there's bad, and then there's bad. And I'm not sure which applies to a certain dark druid/wanted criminal/reluctant friend of mine. His transgressions include black-magic dealings, kidnapping, and murder, and he's about to add "revenge-fueled killing spree" to his resume—if I don't stop him.

Should I stop him?

He and his nemesis are gearing up to tear each other apart, rogues and vultures are converging with their sights on the spoils, and the guilds that would normally stomp them into the ground are under attack. We're on the brink of an all-out criminal turf war, and my time to decide is almost up.

Who's the real bad guy ... and do I dare stand in his way?

My Rating:

I got this from the Kindle Unlimited Library.

This starts with Tori determined to save Ezra by finding out all she can about demon artefacts, only for her to get a visit from an old acquaintance wanting her help to free someone else from her recent past. Add in an encounter with Kai's family and guilds being demolished in the local area and things never seem to run smooth for Tori, her three mage friends and her guild.

It's been a while since I read the previous books in this series but I remember Tori and her three mages and how close they are. I like how they are all willing to lay down their lives for each other - they would all jump in front of a bullet willingly. It's crazy but I love it.

This story was pretty action packed. Something was always happening and it kept up from beginning to end. I'm not going to go into detail as it will ruin it for everyone but I'm very intrigued as to where the author is going to go with the story next. She has a few major plotlines that she needs to fix before the end of the series and I hope that everything works out well in the end.

I will be reading the last two books in this series soon.

Losing people you love is hard.

Aurora De La Torre knows moving back to a place that was once home isn’t going to be easy.

Starting your whole life over probably isn’t supposed to be.

But a small town in the mountains might be the perfect remedy for a broken heart.

Checking out her landlord across the driveway just might cure it too.

Review:

Got this from the KU Library - because, you know, it's Mariana Zapata!!

This starts with Aurora driving through the night to get to the place she's rented in the small town she grew up in. Only the garage apartment has been let out by the son - and the father knew nothing about it. Aurora finally manages to get Mr Rhodes to agree to her staying and she gets settled back into the town and reacquainting herself with old friends and places.

I actually really like Aurora. Some of the things she ended up doing or saying were just really relatable and sometimes inappropriate which made me smile like a lunatic at times. Wolf whistling at a half naked Mr Rhodes whilst he's chopping wood and doing it loudly enough that he actually hears?
...Mr Rhodes asking, "Do you always talk this much?"
Rude. But I didn't care. So I told him the truth. "Yeah." Sorry, not sorry.

The slow progression of their relationship was nice. This author is the Queen (in my opinion) of show-don't-tell in regards to her characters feelings. There's always a good deed done, a nice word said that makes you see that (generally, the big strong silent) male character cares.

I loved these two characters and I really liked that we didn't have to wait until the 98% mark for the characters to get together as has happened in several of this authors books. Don't get me wrong, I generally love her characters and am willing them together and celebrate when they do with a little fist pump or happy dance but it's nice to see them interact as an actual couple for for several chapters, instead of wondering.

I really enjoy this authors work and I will be reading everything she ever writes.

I've been kidnapped by vampires and Sawyer is under some love spell.

Now I’ve got to traipse through the entire Magic Lands without getting killed to make it back to Werewolf City… hopefully in one piece.

Everything would have worked out as planned if Sawyer hadn’t gone on another revenge killing spree in my honor.
Now the entire magical world is at war, and my True Mate and I are stuck in the middle of it.

It's just another Monday.

Review:

I got this from the KU Library.

This starts where the last left off with Demi held captive by the vampires. She eventually manages to escape but has to travel through all the other territories to get back to Werewolf City and her friends.

I don't know if I'm just losing interest in the paranormal genre or what but I didn't really get sucked into this. I found both Sawyer and Demi's behaviour rather annoying and childish at times. Doing whatever they wanted to and to hell with the consequences. I just couldn't gel with this and I did, initially, download the third book but returned it along with this one because I knew it would be a waste of reading time because I wouldn't enjoy it as much as I expected to.

I do normally enjoy this authors work and will look forward to reading more at some point in the future but I think I'll give paranormal books a miss for a while.

Description:

How long would you wait for love?

Max Kaufman was kicked out of his home as a teen and his life has been an uphill battle ever since. From addiction and living on the streets, to recovery and putting himself through nursing school, he’s spent the last ten years rebuilding his shattered sense of self. Now he’s taken a job as a private caretaker to Edward Marsh III, the president and CEO of one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world. Max soon learns Marsh’s multi-billion-dollar empire is a gold and diamond-encrusted web of secrets and lies.

The longer Max works and lives with the Marsh family, the tighter the secrets tangle around him. And his heart—that he’s worked so hard to protect—falls straight into the hands of the distant, cold, and beautiful son of a dynasty…

Silas Marsh is set to inherit the family fortune, but his father is determined his heir be the “perfect” son. Before Silas can take over the company and end its shady business practices, he must prove himself worthy…and deny his true nature.

Silas must choose: stand up to his father by being true to himself and his undeniable feelings for Max. Or pretend to be someone he is not in order to inherit everything. Even if it means sacrificing his first chance at love.

Review:

Got this from the KU Library.

This starts with Max telling an NA meeting about his past and how he overcame his addiction and it wasn't the prettiest story. His attention is caught by someone in the back of the room whose identity is hidden by his sunglasses and hood and Max is intrigued and a little attracted to the guy. When Max's job as an ER nurse starts to be too much for him he's informed that there is a private nursing job available for a wealthy CEO and that he should apply. Max gets the job and is surprised to see the guy from the NA meeting and that he's the son of the CEO. Sparks are soon flying between them but there are many obstacles in their path to happiness.

This kept hitting me in the feels. Both main characters had been through some tough stuff in their pasts and it was nice to see them get their HEA's. It may have taken some time and we may have had some ups and downs along the way but it was worth it in the end. It even made me cry in places.

I feel like I should mention Ramona. She was always not-so-slyly throwing hints out about Silas being gay and that Max would be perfect for him. And Eddie. I loved how he just blurted it all out towards the end. I was doing a happy dance and cheering him on for standing up to their dad. *Squeeee* Even now, I get a huge grin on my face thinking about it.

I will admit that this is my first book by the author but I have seen that she wrote a book about Darlene and her husband - Darlene is a very close friend of Max and is mentioned a lot in this - and I may have to read that one because she grew on me a lot in this.

My parents were brutally murdered when I was five years old. Their killer has spent the last twenty five years in prison for his terrible crimes - but I still have unanswered questions. After all, I am the phoenix. When I die, I am reborn in fire and brimstone. It happens again and again and again. I have no idea where my strange ability came from and nobody to ask.

Now another shocking murder has been committed in the small village where my parents died and there is evidence which suggests the killer is supernatural. The crime gives me the perfect reason to return to my childhood home. I can offer my expertise as a Supe Squad detective - and seek the truth behind what I really am.

The trouble is that I might not like what I find.

Review:

I got this from the KU Library.

This starts with Emma finding out about a murder in the small village where she was born and her parents were murdered and her boss giving her "holiday time" to go and investigate it as there are suspicions of a supe being involved.

I'm not going to go into more detail than that because a lot happens and it would ruin it for future readers.

On one hand, I was intrigued by finding out more about Emma and what happened to her and her family all those years ago. On the other, I kinda missed the craziness of London and all of the usual team and cast of characters. Even Lukas is only in half the book.

I'm kinda torn in my feelings for this one. I liked it but it didn't grab me like the previous books. I do believe it had something to do with the usual cast of characters not being in the book, as mentioned above.

As for the who the bad guy was. Well, I didn't see it coming initially but towards the end I knew that that person was just always in the right place at the right time somehow. I'll admit it was well thought out and I, once again, tip my hat to the author for her vivid imagination.

I will be reading more of this series in the future.

Dillon McQueen: Babe. I promise. You want me.
Serena Jensen: Um, who are you?

There’s a legend at Waylon University: the first girl you kiss freshman year at the bonfire party is the one you’ll never forget. She’ll crawl under your skin. She’ll spark a passion so fierce you’ll burn the world down to possess her.

You might even put a ring on it.

But...timing is everything. That kiss can go horribly wrong. She might run in the opposite direction. And boy, did Serena run.

Dillon is Waylon’s hotshot quarterback with something to prove. All he wants is to graduate and make it to the NFL. What he doesn’t need is to finally meet the mystery girl he kissed at the bonfire freshman year. Isn’t it enough that she’s haunted his dreams for more than a thousand nights?

Fate laughs in his face when he runs into the plucky girl at the Piggly Wiggly. Surrounded by his entourage, he’s got all the Oreos in his cart; she gets revenge by buying every six-pack of his favorite beer.

Obviously, that legend is a curse. She’s not his type and hates him. Worst of all, how can she not remember him when she left a Serena-shaped hole in his heart for the past three years?

So why can’t he stop trying to win her?

Will this quarterback score the girl or make the biggest fumble of his life?

Review:

I've decided to grab all the books off my Amazon wish-list that are on Kindle Unlimited before my six month long subscription runs out next month and this is one of them.

This starts at the Waylon bonfire where it's said that the first girl you kiss will get under your skin and you wont be able to forget her. Dillon is sceptical of the curse but his attention is captured by a girl - Serena -dancing her heart out by herself and unable to help himself he kisses her, only she disappears before he can fins anything out about her. Fast forward three years and Dillon is now quarterback of the team when he bumps into Serena at the local store, only both have changed and don't recognise the other but both have a niggling sense that they know each other.

I enjoyed this like I have the rest of the series. Both of these two had a bit of a dodgy past in terms of relationships with others. Dillon's parents were never really there for him and Serena's ex was bad news which has made her wary of love. They did make a cute couple, though, and I'm glad that Dillon managed to worm his way under Serena's skin and that she actually let her guard down long enough to let the cutely awkward quarterback into her life.

I liked seeing that last part with the guys from the previous books making an appearance in the epilogue. Blaze is still my favourite... I think. 😍

If the author does another book in this series I will definitely be reading it. These american football players have a way of making me fall in love with them. Maybe the blue haired Owen Sinclair will be next??

One moment Riley Murrough is living a normal life working in a coffee shop, and the next he’s running for his life from demons, learns he bears the mark of a shape-shifter king from a magical realm, and—worst of all—he’s destined to become the mated prince to the arrogant tiger shifter he would rather strangle.

Khalon, the shifter king, is equally distraught at the idea of being bound to a human prince, and along with his Soldati warriors, he sets out to return Riley to his own world where he belongs. On their journey they might discover why the priestess brought them together—if they can escape the demons and make it to her alive.

First Edition published as The Soldati Prince in Charmed and Dangerous (anthology) by JCP Books LLC, 2015.

Review:

I'd been eyeing this for a while due to me liking the author's THIRDS series, so I decided to download it from the KU Library.

It starts with Riley at work before two men walk in and suddenly start to leak black shadows which freaks Riley out and he runs from the cafe, only to be rescued by some tigers - which also blows Riley's mind. The tigers shift into people and after a short discussion decide to take Riley with them back to their Kingdom while they try to make sense of what they've discovered - that Riley is the Soldati Prince and mate to Khalon, the Soldati King.

This is quite a short book - showing as less than 150 pages - and so moves along quite quickly. We do get to know the main characters quite well and I did find both Riley and Khalon to be likeable, especially in those moments when it was just the two of them. I'll admit to having a little cry at one point near the end. I wasn't expecting that to happen and I felt a little devastated on Khalon's behalf.

As much as I did quite like this, I'm not sure if I'm going to continue the series. It didn't really grab me but it did do a good build up for the next book in the series with tension between Reynor and Toka -  I think I spelt those right?

Almost sixteen-year-old Aria Jones is starting over. New postal code, new last name, new rules. But she doesn’t mind, because it means she can leave her painful regrets behind. In the bustling town of Eastmonte, she can become someone else. Someone better.

With the Hartford family living next door, it seems she will succeed. Sure, Cassie Hartford may be the epitome of social awkwardness thanks to her autism, but she also offers an innocent and sincere friendship that Aria learns to appreciate. And Cassie’s older brother, Emmett—a popular Junior A hockey player with a bright future—well … Aria wishes that friendship could lead to something more. If he didn’t already have a girlfriend, maybe it would.

But Aria soon finds herself in a dicey moral predicament that could derail her attempt at a fresh start. It is her loyalty to Cassie and her growing crush on Emmett that leads her to make a risky move, one that earns her a vindictive enemy who is determined to splinter her happy new world.

Review:

I got this from the KU Library.

I've read K.A. Tucker's books in the past so when I saw this, I thought I'd make use of my KU offer and download this before it runs out next month.

This starts with Aria and her mum travelling across Canada to move in with her mum's elderly uncle Merv as they escape something that went down with Aria at her old school and the fact that her dad had a secret other family with his paralegal. They move in next door to Cassie - who has autism - and Emmett and their family and Aria is instantly drawn to the siblings.

I did enjoy this. It was a super cute young adult romance that dealt with issues of bullying and autism as well as a few other things like loss, regret and redemption.

I got a bit of an ache at times when I was reading bits about people's behaviour towards Cassie. She's just this super happy friendly person and they treat her like she has the plague. It's not fair. I loved how Aria took her under her wing and stood up for her. They were a cute best friends twosome.

And then the romance between Aria and Emmett. I thought it was really nicely done. They didn't rush into things and Emmett was really respectful and protective of both Aria and his sister.

I feel like Zach should get a mention. He was great with Cassie - absolutely perfect with her! He knew just what to say and do to make her happy or put her at ease. I enjoyed reading those few times when they were together.

Discover what would have happened if a kiss from the prince didn't wake Sleeping Beauty.

The handsome prince is poised to kiss the beautiful sleeping princess and live happily ever after, but as soon as his lips touch hers he too falls fast asleep. It is clear that this tale is far from over.

Now, Princess Aurora must escape from a dangerous and magical land created from her very own dreams.

With Maleficent's agents following her every move, Aurora needs to discover who her true friends are and, most importantly, who she really is.

Review:

So this is another one of those bargain buys from my favourite shop, The Works. I picked up three of these retellings of Disney films and decided to start with this one. In case you haven't figure out from the cover, this is Sleeping Beauty.

This starts with the Prince heading inside the castle to kiss his Princess awake, only for it to not work and for him to fall asleep too. We're then following Princess Aurora as she lives her life in the castle with her aunt Maleficent and the few villages who were safely ensconced inside the castle as the world outside fell into disarray. Only Aurora starts to question things when she manages to create something just by thinking about it hard enough.

I wasn't the biggest fan of the style of this. It's very formal writing - which could be down to being in Aurora's head and her being a Princess. It just wasn't working for me at all. I finally gave up on the story before half way. It was just a little annoyingly repetitive at times and Aurora didn't come across as being clever.

I do have two other books, as mentioned above, and I hope they are better written than this one or they will be joining this in the DNF pile.

Description:

The epic conclusion to the Shadow Beast Shifters.

I finally have the life I always dreamed of. So why does it taste like ash on my tongue?

Growing up in Torma, the strongest of the shifter packs, I wanted nothing more than to find my true mate and live my best life. Of course, that dream existed before my father betrayed the pack and turned me into their punching bag.

I’d all but given up, until a quirk of true mate genetics gifted me a true mate like no other.

It seems my childhood dreams were finally a reality. Funny how quickly dreams turn into nightmares.

I’m being lied to and missing weeks and months of time. Someone messed with me and no matter how often I’m told to forget it and move on as Torin’s mate, there’s no way I can. Whoever did this to me should have known I’d pick at it until it bled. It’s my nature after all.

As I search out random growls, flutters in my chest, and a suspicion that there’s so much more going on than I could even imagine, I sense that I’m racing against an unknown clock.

I need to get to the bottom of this mystery.

And when I figure out who stole my memories, they’re going to wish they never messed with Mera Callahan.

Game on.

Review:

Got this one from the KU Library.

This carries on exactly where the last left off. Mera is stranded in Torma pack lands with no memory of her time with Shadow but she knows something isn't right and, in true Mera style, is determined to figure out what's been going on.

My only reason for grabbing this from the KU Library was just to see how it was going to end. I wanted these two (and the rest of their extended gang) to kick the bad guys arse. I wasn't all that interested in the rest of this; as in the tons of sex they kept having because that was pretty much what the rest of the plot entailed. A bit harsh but they were at it like rabbits for a lot of the book.

I did struggle to get dragged into this one. It took a good 25% or so before Shadow even made an appearance and I was just dutifully chugging along so we could get to the ending. It was a bit of an epic battle, if I'm honest, but it seemed over a little too easily. I did shed a tear at one point but it all worked out fine in the end.

I've seen the author is continuing the series with Angel - and possibly Reece as a love interest? - and I did like the fierce female so I wouldn't mind trying that one.

This initial trilogy just didn't really work for me.
