I see dead people.
No, not like that movie.
I’m a coroner, and yes it's the kiss of death on my dating life. When men find out what I do, I'm lucky to hear “it was nice meeting you.”
Until I almost accidentally kill Blake Hale with my car.
Instead of being freaked out by me, he’s intrigued.
No matter how much I try to scare him off, he keeps coming back for more.
And for a follow-the-rules guy, he’s breaking them all… for me.
We couldn’t be more different.
He’s all goodness and light, with a brain that’s even sexier than his six pack.
I’m danger in a pretty package, and no amount of knocking on wood is going to make the happily ever after he’s promising come true. But…
With each word we exchange, my resolve weakens.
With each heated look, he gets further into my soul.
With every kiss, he consumes me by accepting me just as I am.
I deal in death all day. He sells life… insurance. What could possibly go wrong when I start believing in Mr. Right?
Got this from the KU Library.
This starts with Zoey heading to a crime scene to see her latest body - who's keeled over into his scrambled eggs - and taking photos of the scene before heading back to the morgue where she ends up in a car accident with Blake - a life insurance...guy/manager? They need to sort out the insurance for the cars and trade details for later on but Blake can't help but be drawn to the pretty mortician and seeks her out.
I liked Blake. I definitely feel like I should mention him first. From that first meeting with Zoey he was drawn to her and wasn't letting anything get in his way - not the rumours and stupid nicknames, not Zoey, herself, pushing him away. His determination to claim her as his.
Zoey was great too, but I did feel like she just let everyone walk all over her in regards to her nicknames and treating her like she was cursed and a bad omen. I'm glad that with Blake's encouragement that she started to stand up for herself and grew into herself more. It was cute to read.
I did like this but it did feel long at times and I skipped paragraphs here and there.
It was the mystery of her DB's (Dead Bodies) cause of death that kept me reading really. I thought I knew who was behind it, like Zoey and Blake, but it was only right at the end that we actually see who it was behind it all and it surprised me a little. It was cleverly thought out, leading you one way and then the other.
I wouldn't mind reading more books by this author in the future.
