Description:

The king commands at 3:30 a.m.

I’ve screwed up big time. Now, I’m facing the damning consequences.

The walls are closing in as I balance duty to grandmother’s memory with my impossible feelings for Kyros. Then there’s the freakin’ human-vampire hybrid thing to deal with.

The problem is, I’m no longer willing to lose the person I’ve gambled against from the start.

Our fates hinge on a single roll of the dice, and one wrong move could collapse the tower of cards I’ve painstakingly built.

If that happens, I’ll lose more than I ever bargained for.

Review:

This has been borrowed from the Kindle Unlimited Library.

This is the final book and Basi has some serious issues to resolve. She gave the Fyrlia's information that could start the end game and leave Kyros and his family in jeopardy so she has to fix that. Then there's what she promised to do for the Indebted. There's also the issue of trying to stay true to her grandmother's memory.

Once again I don't want to spoil it by going into detail but whoa, this had a lot going on.

I enjoyed reading more of the growing connection between Basi and Kyros as they completed more blood exchanges. It was about time that they finally just told each other the truth and worked through the issues from their short past together. They really were super cute and extremely hot at times. I loved them.

As for the game between the two clans of vampires. I'm so glad Basi was able to come up with her brilliant idea to thwart the bad side from winning as, like Basilia, I'd grown to like pretty much all of Kyros' family.

I did like the ending.

At the back of the book, the author had a note saying she was working on a werewolf supernatural battle series too and I think I'll read that too when it's released.

Vampire Debt: Supernatural Battle - Kelly St Clare

Vampire royals strategise at 2 a.m.

Last week, I inherited every cent of the multi-billion-dollar Le Spyre estate.

But tequila is far easier to swallow than the coincidence of my beloved grandmother's death.

I'm over this supernatural game, yet walking away from Kyros isn't simple with the damn mate thing on the cards.

The Indebted need my help. My grandmother deserves justice. And, uhm, the third blood exchange did something to me.

It's official. I'm done playing by paranormal rules. I'm making my own--and playing to win. Because if I enter Ingenium on my terms, there's no turning back.

Winning is the only option.

Review:

This has been borrowed from the Kindle Unlimited ;Library.

This pretty much carries on from the last with Basi at her grandmothers funeral. Afterwards she learns some things about her grandmother and her estate that has her marvelling at her secretiveness. Basi also has plans for the Indebted. She wants to undergo the fourth blood exchange so she can begin to have a group of Indebted away from the tower so they can have some freedom but the fourth exchange has been given the no go by King Julian.

It does seem to be getting a little complicated this trilogy. There is so much going on at times that I get a little overwhelmed. I won't spoil it by listing things because I think you need to try this series for yourself.

All I want is for Basi and Kyros to get together because the tension and the emotions between them are so high at times. They've've both lied to each other at time so I really don't know if I get Kyros' anger at the end of this.

The game between these two warring families is very likely to destroy everyone if it keeps going for much longer. It needs to come to an end.

I need to finish this trilogy to see how it all ends.

My city is a giant board game. The players are supernatural— freakin’ vampires—including an overbearing crown prince whose unwanted attention could spell my demise.

Now, I must play their deadly game, or my grandmother and best friend will pay the ultimate price.

Review:

I borrowed this from the Kindle Unlimited library.

This had a very slow start as we see Basilia - Basi - try to be a normal person instead of a rich snob as she runs away from her boring rich life and tries to fend for herself for the first time in her life. That starts with a job, so she and Tommy scour the newspapers looking for anything. She hands her resume into Kyros Tower, a real estate agents, and is surprised to be interviewed there and then. Things aren't all they seem, though, and soon Basi finds herself drawn into a strange game of monopoly with vampires.

The first 20% or so of this was rather slow and I was considering putting this down but I am so glad I carried on. It was good! It had me up until half eleven on my first night reading it just to see what was going to happen between Kyros and Basi. There was some serious sexual tension going on and I was hooked.

This definitely has a new take on vampires, and I don't want to go into detail as that would totally ruin it but it's different. I loved how Basi sort of slowly sank into their world and just went with it. Yeah, she freaked out at times but she did her best to make friends and get to know them, especially Laurel.

I've already borrowed book 2, off to start it now!

So This is Christmas - Josh Lanyon

Description:

God Help You Merry Gentlemen…

Arriving home early after spending Christmas in jolly old England, sometimes amateur sleuth Adrien English discovers alarming developments at Cloak and Dagger Books--and an old acquaintance seeking help in finding his missing boyfriend.

Fortunately, Adrien just happens to know a really good private eye…

Review:

This has been borrowed from the Kindle Unlimited Library.

As you can see from the screenshot below, it has been 8 years - possibly more since I joined Goodreads in 2012 - since I read books five and six in this series - and I should point out, they were the only two books I DID read in this series after getting them free one Christmas from AllRomanceeBooks before the website shut down.

I did fall in love with Adrien and Jake despite not knowing all the stuff they had been through in the previous books so when I saw this, I had to read it. They do rehash a lot of what happened in the past and god, I was getting emotional reading it - so in a way I'm glad I didn't - but they are such a good couple.

Well this wouldn't be an Adrien English mystery without a mystery and this one involves an old acquaintance whose boyfriend has gone missing after visiting his family for the holidays. His old fashioned, well off family. Both sides are saying the other had something to do with his disappearance and Adrien is tasked with helping to track him down, while Jake is hired by the family to do the same.

There's some other drama going on at Cloak & Dagger, the bookshop Adrien owns and we see some sweet moments and sometimes some hot moments between Jake and Adrien. It had me laughing at times with Adrien's humour.

I do like this series and quite a few of this authors other series like Holmes and Moriarity - of which Moriarity got a mention in this as an ex cop turned author and I will be reading more of his books at a later date.

Promises: Part One - A.E. Via

Book: Promises: Part One
Author: A.E. Via
Series: Bounty Hunters, #1
Genres: M/M Romance
Format: Kindle e-Book
Publication Date: 14th October 2015

My Rating: πŸŒ•πŸŒ•πŸŒ•
Date Finished: 20th June 2020

Description:

Duke Morgan owns and operates one of the largest bail bond companies in Atlanta. Not only does he bond criminals out of jail, he and his notorious group of bounty hunters will also track them down and ensure they show up for court.

Roman ‘Quick’ Webb is Duke’s business partner and best friend. Both men are in their forties and have given up on the happily ever after with the ranch-style home, and white picket fence. They’d both tried it and failed miserably. But they have their friendship and they have the business.

When Quick’s son, Vaughan Webb returns – after seven years - from studying abroad with his law degree in hand, he’s back to claim what he’s always wanted…his fathers’ best friend… Duke Morgan. Vaughan has always claimed to be a classic gentleman with an old soul. He didn’t party and screw up in school like his buddies. He was focused and dedicated to becoming the man worthy of Duke’s love.
It’s a complex and messy situation as Duke and Quick figure out how to still be best friends when one of them is sleeping with his friend’s one and only son. But when Duke is hurt on the job, all the unimportant trivialities fall to the wayside and Vaughan and Quick put their heads together to save Duke.

Review:

I borrowed this from the Kindle Unlimited Library.

I haven't read a gay romance in a while. This one tells the story of Duke, a bounty hunter/bail bondsman, who's in his mid 40's still pining over the guy he thought he was in love in, Judge. Then steps in his best friends son, Vaughan, a 31 year old lawyer who's had a crush on Duke for the past decade or so and has now come back to Atlanta to claim him as his own. Not all goes to plan though.

Duke is wary of dating his best friends son and Vaughan is determined to make him realise how right they are for each other. It's kinda cute, how they act around each other - like they're having their first crush.

Admittedly though, I did think that Vaughan's behaviour was a bit full on at times. Following Duke to Macy's and then following him into the dressing room? Fair enough we had a hot scene in that dressing room but it was still a little stalker-ish. I think because of that I didn't really feel their relationship. There were some cute moments throughout.

I did like how Duke saw Vaughan. He was bowled over by the sight of him and his description of him was downright awesome. It was how he described Vaughan's voice that I liked the most. Even I got a few tingles.

I liked it but it didn't completely pull me in. The relationship didn't entirely work for me. I get lust but these two seemed to fall into love really quickly and easily. I felt like I missed something.

One thing that has got me intrigued is Quick and Dr Chauncey. With how Quick spoke to the poor doctor in this one, I have no idea how he's going to straighten things out with him but after seeing that bit from the doctor's POV, I really hope they do because the poor guy deserves someone who'll stay.

I may read it at a later time.

Description:

Thanks to her star-crossed parents Marko and Alana, newborn baby Hazel has already survived lethal assassins, rampaging armies, and alien monstrosities, but in the cold vastness of outer space, the little girl encounters her family's greatest challenge yet: the grandparents.

Review:

I borrowed this from the Kindle Unlimited Library.

I read the first volume of this years ago and was intrigued by why these two characters were causing a war across almost all the universe and this one explains it a lot more. They are from rival sides of a war and Marko was Alana's prisoner after he handed himself in. They grew closer and she eventually helps him escape his imprisonment. Fast forward a while and almost every assassin in the galaxy is after them. They get interrupted by Marko's parents who cause havoc for a while and we see a few childhood scenes.

I do quite like this series but it isn't grabbing me as much as the other recent Graphic Novel I read is. I'm intrigued as to what's going to happen in the end and if the trio will survive and win the war against everyone who's gunning for them.

Fence, #4 - C.S. Pacat

Description:

Nicholas begins to overthink everything as he struggles to prove he deserves his place at Kings Row.

Review:

In this part it's Nicholas' match and after some advice off their instructor in the last part, he's struggling to get his head back in the game and fence as good as he normally does. Seiji is watching, recognising something in Nicholas' technique. And at the end, the next match is between Seiji and Aiden - who everyone has a crush on, and breaker of boys hearts.

I feel like by now we know the boys quite well, they're all very different but all have a love of fencing. The only characters I don't really like is Aiden with his cocky attitude.

I am very intrigued by how their match will play out. I really want Seiji to win just to put a dent in Aiden's "perfection" and will be buying more books in the series soon.

Description:

As Nicholas works to become a better fencer, Seiji takes an unexpected interest in his journey.

Review:

So in this part it's more training before the beginning of a round robin tournament in the hopes of finding the best three players to go on to compete against rival school Exton.

I've never really been a fan of fencing, I didn't really understand the sport but we get a little explanation of the three different swords and how people score in each different game.

Everyone is in awe of Seiji and his skills as he wins his match and then Nicholas gets ready for his.

I'm still quite liking this. It has splashes of humour and an engaging storyline that still has me hooked.

I also read part 4 - review to come.

Review:

I finished this last night, another fairly short continuation with Nicholas finding out his roommate is none other than Seiji and both of them hating it. They divide the room and then go to bed, ready for the next days fencing lessons where we then meet the rest of the team.

I actually thought this was a fun addition to the first, which was a bit more serious. There were definitely a few fun scenes in this with meeting the rest of the fencing team hopefuls. They all had their own personalities and quirks and the artwork showed them brilliantly.

I'm looking forward to reading more of this.

Filled with raw talent but lacking proper training, he signs up for a competition that puts him head-to-head with fencing prodigy Seiji Katayama...and on the road to the elite all-boys school Kings Row. A chance at a real team and a place to belong awaits him—if he can make the cut!

Review:

I've been eyeing this for a while. I've read the author's M/M Fantasy Romance series Captive Prince and fell in love with it so I was hoping this would be just as good. It's only short being the first instalment but it had potential to be something quite good. The artwork was great and the storyline has me intrigued.

It follows Nicholas Cox, illegitimate son to a fencing star who has followed in his dad's footsteps and likes fencing. He enters a tournament and is up against fencing prodigy Seiji Katayama and fails miserably. Shortly afterwards he get's into a prestigious all boy's school where he hopes to get better with his fencing and hopefully get on the team.

I am intrigued what's going to end up happening with this series both with Nicholas and his fencing dreams and knowing the author writes M/M Romances.

I've just bought book 2, will review it soon.

Description:

Paradise, blooded daughter of the king's First Advisor, is ready to break free from the restrictive life of an aristocratic female. Her strategy? Join the Black Dagger Brotherhood's training center program and learn to fight for herself, think for herself... be herself. It's a good plan, until everything goes wrong. The schooling is unfathomably difficult, the other recruits feel more like enemies than allies, and it's very clear that the Brother in charge, Butch O'Neal, a.k.a. the Dhestroyer, is having serious problems in his own life.

And that's before she falls in love with a fellow classmate. Craeg, a common civilian, is nothing her father would ever want for her, but everything she could ask for in a male. As an act of violence threatens to tear apart the entire program, and the erotic pull between them grows irresistible, Paradise is tested in ways she never anticipated--and left wondering whether she's strong enough to claim her own power...on the field, and off.

Review:

I read my first Black Dagger Brotherhood book back in 2010, I think, and fell in love with this group of warriors. I have books 1-12 in paperback and they sit proudly on my bookshelf, as shown below:

I guess it's not fair to have favourites but two of them always stick in my head: Rhage and Vishous, though all the guys are memorable. The King, Wrath's second book in the series took me a while to read so I gave up on the series for a while, though I have been buying the rest of the books in this series as Kindle books.
This spin off series - Black Dagger Legacy - is about the original guys finding new recruits who they will train so they can help them take on the lessers and any other threats to their population.

This one follows Paradise, a society heir who wants more from her life than parties so she fills in an application form and hopes her father will give her permission to join the programme and he does, believing she won't make it very far. Paradise proves everyone wrong, though, including Craeg - fellow trainee and the guy she has an intense attraction towards. And the feeling is definitely mutual.

I enjoyed watching this play out, although Craeg's reluctance to start with annoyed me a little. But Paradise certainly wore him down in the end and it was fun watching.

It also focuses on Butch and Marissa's relationship. Both are dealing - or more precisely NOT dealing - with issues from their pasts and it's starting to drive a wedge between them. Then there's the battered female that comes into Safe Place - where Marissa works - on the brink of death that brings up old memories.

I did enjoy seeing a lot of the brothers again, it reminded me why I love this series and I can't wait to read more. I think The Shadows will be my next read.

Not that her feelings matter, because she slipped and used her hidden talent for a moment. Now she has one hour to eat her mom's overcooked pot roast. One hour to listen to her sister's academy gossip and laugh at her dad's jokes. One hour to pretend everything's okay. And one hour to escape.

Because tonight, they'll come for her.

Review:

I haven't read and enjoyed a dystopian book in years but as this was a bargain £1, I decided to buy it.

It didn't immediately grab me but I kept reading hoping that something would pull me in. I started reading this towards the end of March and it's taken me until now to finish it..

The storyline was original with talented females - Spinsters - being able to weave the world around them with the best of them, the Creweler, getting raw materials that the Spinsters then use. We hear how Adelice, one of those talented females, was supposed to purposely fail her spinster test but instead aced it and now knows that the Guild will come to take her to the Coventry where she will begin training on how to weave.

The romance in this didn't grab me at all. I wasn't that bothered which guy she ended up with out of Erik and Jost. Neither really did it for me, though there was a surprising little twist at the end.

I just wanted to know what was happening in the higher up areas of the Guild and what everything was leading up to with Adelice. I wasn't all that surprised by how this book ended and I won't be reading the other two books in this series.

Description:

Eighteen year old Myla Lewis is a girl who loves two things: kicking ass and kicking ass. She’s not your every day quasi-demon, half-demon and half-human, girl. For the past five years, Myla has lived for the days she gets to fight in Purgatory’s arena. When souls want a trial by combat for their right to enter heaven or hell, they go up against her, and she hasn’t lost a battle yet..

But as she starts her senior year at Purgatory High, the arena fights aren’t enough to keep her spirits up anymore. When the demons start to act weird, even for demons, and the King of the Demons, Armageddon, shows up at Myla’s school, she knows that things are changing and it’s not looking good for the quasi-demons. Myla starts to question everything, and doesn’t like the answers she finds. What happened seventeen years ago that turned the quasi-demons into slave labor? Why was her mom always so sad? And why won’t anyone tell her who her father is? Things heat up when Myla meets Lincoln, the High Prince of the Thrax, a super sexy half-human and half-angel demon hunter. But what’s a quasi-demon girl to do when she falls for a demon hunter? It’s a good thing that Myla’s not afraid of breaking a few rules. With a love worth fighting for, Myla’s going to shake up Purgatory.

Review:

This is another book that has been on my Kindle for years. It's been a little over six years since I bought this from Amazon so it's about time I read this.

This starts with Myla, a quasi-demon, waking for school, only to find she has to fight in the arena again, something she lives for. There's some politics going on with the angels and demons and she finds herself being drawn into it. Add in Prince Lincoln of the thrax, a group of human demon killers, and she's not having the best time... Not with the tension that sparks between them.

I'll admit I'd been put off by the number of pages in this. I am not a fan of really long books and this is listed as being 500+ pages... But, I was quickly drawn into this. It had a really easy to read style and I quickly grew to like Myla. She's the kick arse, evil soul defeating, demon killing quasi-demon that want's to know who her dad is. And it is a mystery that I enjoyed seeing unravelled. There were quite a few twists and turns along the way.

The romance was kinda cute. They really don't like each other much to start with what with Lincoln being a demon hunter and Myla being part demon but the more time they spent together, it was pretty obvious that they had a spark between them and I enjoyed the build up to their relationship starting and flourishing.

I also really liked a few of the secondary character's such as Walker and Cissy. Zeke also wasn't so bad when he stopped being so "I'm hot, no-one can resist me" and started acting more normal.

It was a very well thought out and detailed story that I enjoyed getting my teeth into but I'm not going into too many details as it would totally ruin it for you. Let's just say Purgatory is in for a hell of a ride. If you like stories involving demons and angels then I'd give this a go.
